From process design to complete line implementation, Uwants supports the development of a modern potato processing project in Inner Mongolia.
Shanghai Uwants Technology Co., Ltd. (Uwants) has recently participated in a major potato processing project in Tongliao, Inner Mongolia, China. The 1.8 T/H potato flakes production line has arrived at the project site and has officially entered the equipment installation stage.
As a joint process design and manufacturing partner, Uwants worked together with Shandong Xinzhengda Industrial Equipment Co., Ltd. on the process design, equipment manufacturing and implementation of the complete potato flakes production line.
The project combines potato processing technology, equipment manufacturing and engineering experience to develop a complete solution for producing potato flakes from fresh potatoes.
For Uwants, this project represents a practical application of its capabilities in potato processing process design, complete production line planning and potato processing solutions.

The project is located in the Lubei Industrial Park in Zhalute Banner, Tongliao, Inner Mongolia.
It is a key project in Inner Mongolia with a total investment of approximately RMB 710 million and a planned annual potato processing capacity of 150,000 tons.
After completion, the project is planned to produce:
·
20,000 tons of potato flakes per year
·
·
10,000 tons of VF French fries per year
·
The project aims to further develop the local potato industry by connecting potato cultivation, processing, storage, logistics and food manufacturing.
Traditionally, part of the locally grown potatoes were sold as fresh raw materials or underwent relatively basic processing. Establishing a large-scale potato processing plant can help convert fresh potatoes into higher-value food products and ingredients.
This creates opportunities for the development of potato-based applications in food manufacturing, including bakery products, prepared foods, convenience foods and snack products.
For this project, Uwants participated in the process design and joint manufacturing of the 1.8 T/H potato flakes production line.
The focus was not simply on individual machines, but on how different processing stages could work together as a complete production system.
Uwants participated in the planning of key processing stages, including:
Potato Receiving → Washing → Peeling → Sorting → Cutting → Blanching/Cooking → Mashing → Mash Transfer → Drum Drying → Flake Breaking & Screening
The production process was planned according to the required production capacity, potato raw material characteristics and actual project conditions.
The solution also incorporates experience related to European food-processing standards and international potato processing projects.
A stable potato flakes production line requires coordination between multiple processing stages.
The main process of the project can be summarized as:
Fresh Potatoes → Washing → Peeling → Sorting → Cutting → Cooking → Mashing → Transfer → Drum Drying → Breaking → Screening → Potato Flakes
Each stage plays an important role in the final product.
Peeling is an important step in potato processing because excessive flesh loss during peeling can directly affect raw material utilization.
The project uses a steam peeling system to separate potato skins through high-temperature steam treatment.
Compared with conventional mechanical abrasive peeling, steam peeling can help reduce potato flesh loss while providing efficient continuous peeling.
After peeling, a sorting stage is used to remove rotten, damaged or unsuitable potato pieces before the material enters subsequent processing stages.
The production line also reserves an interface for potential future integration of optical sorting equipment, allowing the automation level to be upgraded according to future production requirements.

The cutting process is designed according to the requirements of potato flakes processing.
A hydro cutting system uses water flow to assist the cutting process. It can help reduce free starch release during cutting and minimize unnecessary material loss.
The cutting process is also coordinated with upstream and downstream equipment to support continuous production.
Rather than treating the cutting machine as an isolated piece of equipment, Uwants considers the cutting process as part of the complete potato processing system.

After cutting, potatoes enter the subsequent thermal processing stage before being converted into potato mash.
Cooking and mashing are important stages in potato flakes manufacturing because the condition of the potato mash directly affects the subsequent drying process.
The process is designed to provide stable material conditions for the downstream mash transfer and drum drying sections.
After mashing, the potato mash needs to be transferred to the drying section.
The project uses a dedicated potato mash transfer solution designed to reduce excessive compression and mechanical damage during transportation.
Maintaining the condition of potato mash during transfer can help support stable processing performance and consistent product quality.
This is particularly important in a complete potato flakes processing line because material handling between individual machines can affect the performance of the entire production system.
Drum drying is one of the key processes in potato flakes production.
During the drying process, potato mash is evenly distributed onto the drum surface to form a thin layer. Moisture is then removed through controlled heating and evaporation.
The project uses a high-performance drum drying system combined with process temperature control.
Key operating parameters such as temperature, flow and pressure can be monitored during production to support stable operation.
After drying, the resulting potato flakes are processed through breaking and screening to obtain the required final product.
The designed production capacity of this potato flakes production line is 1.8 T/H.

The production line is designed for continuous processing from raw potato feeding to final product handling.
Major product-contact components use food-grade SUS304 stainless steel.
Key transmission components can be configured with internationally recognized brands according to project requirements.
The production line incorporates automated monitoring and control of key process parameters, including temperature, flow and pressure.
This helps reduce unnecessary manual intervention and supports consistent production.
For pressure-bearing equipment, relevant CE-PED certification is applied where required by the equipment design and project configuration.
The combination of food-grade materials, automated control and integrated processing equipment provides a foundation for continuous potato processing.
Potato processing involves significant water and energy consumption, particularly in thermal processing and drying.
For this project, energy utilization is considered during the production line design stage.
A dedicated heat exchange system is used to recover suitable waste heat generated during processing.
Heat generated from processes such as cooking and drum drying can be collected and reused for appropriate upstream heating applications.
This approach can help reduce energy losses and improve overall heat utilization within the potato processing plant.
Potato processing generates by-products including potato peels, rejected potatoes, fiber residues and wastewater.
For the Tongliao project, waste and by-product management is considered as part of the overall processing solution.
Solid residues such as potato peels and processing fiber can be dewatered and further used as feed raw materials or organic fertilizer materials, depending on local requirements.
Wastewater from washing and thermal processing contains organic matter and suspended solids.
Preliminary separation can be used to remove solid particles before subsequent wastewater treatment processes.
Integrating waste management considerations into the initial process design can help improve resource utilization and reduce the environmental burden of potato processing.
Building a potato processing plant is not simply a matter of selecting individual machines.
A complete potato processing solution needs to consider:
·
Raw potato characteristics
·
·
Target product
·
·
Production capacity
·
·
Process flow
·
·
Factory layout
·
·
Water and energy requirements
·
·
Equipment coordination
·
·
Automation requirements
·
·
Waste management
·
·
Future production expansion
·
For this reason, Uwants focuses on process-based potato processing solutions rather than isolated equipment supply.
By considering the entire production process, different machines can be selected and coordinated according to the customer's specific production requirements.
The Tongliao project further demonstrates Uwants' involvement in potato processing projects and complete production line solutions.
Uwants provides solutions for different potato-based products, including:
